3 Skylight Shade Ideas for Your Home

Hunter Douglas Duette® Cellular Shades can fit any window, including skylight shades. Designed for energy savings, cellular shades have honey-comb-shaped cells built into the fabric that trap hot air as it attempts to pass through the window. As the cells fill, they press against your window, blocking further heat transfer and acting like an insulation layer. This insulation can help keep your heat inside during the winter and the heat out during summer, reducing your energy bill.
Not only does this keep the hot mid-day sun from pouring down through your skylight and heating up your home, but it also absorbs sound. The plane flying overhead or thunderstorm isn't as noticeable, making your home quieter. To get even more out of your cellular shade, consider the Duette Architella®, which incorporates a dual row of cells.
2. Consider Room-Darkening Fabric
You can customize your skylight cellular shades’ fabric, creating the perfect atmosphere in any room. When you select your Duette® Cellular Shades or Duette Architella® shades, you can choose from three fabric opacities:
- Sheer.
- Light-filtering.
- Room-darkening.
These shades block UV rays and reduce glare, but the fabric you select can impact the feel of the room. If you want the option of both filtered light and darkness, consider a dual shade. A dual shade gives you two shades that operate independently to have constant coverage and adjust the light coming into your home.
3. Automate Your Shades
You can choose two options for your skylight blinds: a hand crank with or without a telescoping pull depending on height and location and the award-winning Hunter Douglas PowerView® Automation. The hand crank is easy to use and lets you efficiently open and close your shade as necessary.
With a motorization solution, you use the app to open or close your shades. You can schedule the shades to close during the hottest points of the day when no one's home and open or switch to a light-filtering or sheer shade when you arrive home.
